WATER METER READINGS Generally, water meters are read during the weeks containing the 15th day of March, June, September and December. Authorized meter readers will be able to provide proof of identification. Meter readings are obtained by inserting a meter reading device into a small black box located on the outside of your home or facility. External registers show usage in thousands of gallons and will not register 1,000 gallons until that amount has been consumed. You may check your water consumption by reading the numbers under the glass dome of the water meter. The register will look like this: 1 0 9 6 4 .5 This reading would be 10,964 ½ gallons. The outside reading would be 10,000 gallons. On most meters, there is a little red dial that spins when water is being used. If you suspect that you have a leak, turn off all faucets and check your meter. If the dial is moving, you know that you have a leak somewhere. The best time to check for a leak is right before you go to bed. Make sure that all the faucets are turned off and check the meter reading. Check the meter again as soon as you get up in the morning. If you have not used any water, the reading should be the same. Content Last Modified on 5/28/2010 11:08:01 AM Warwick Township Home Back Printable Version Text-Only Full-Screen eMail Previous Next |
